Serena Williams is Pregnant by a White Man!!! Is She in a “Sunken Place”?
World champion tennis player Serena Williams announced a few days ago, that she was expecting her first child with her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. I was immediately happy for her and congratulated her on social media on joining the mommy club.
Serena is a clear representation of “Black Girl Magic”. Serena and Venus both have made history has the first black women to win national and world tennis titles. Not only did they make history on the court, but their natural hairstyles have been iconic for years. The Williams’ sisters have been rocking beads and braids like most black girls for years. They were one of the first to showcase their natural hair before, rocking natural became mainstream. Not only is her hair iconic, but that that beautiful curvaceous shape that so many of us adore is one to be duplicated all over the world. Women are going under the knife to achieve Serena’s natural god given shape.
With all the praise, black women give Serena this leads me to my next question…are we mad Serena is pregnant by a white man?? Throughout the years, Serena has had her share of interracial dating and this is not the first white man Serena has been linked too, but she has also had her fair share of brothers on the list. She was recently linked to Drake and dated Common for several years. Serena is a beautiful and talent sister who could probably have any man she set her eye on, but for whatever reason, she has chosen to spend the rest of her life with a man who happens to be white.
I will say it is definitely a double standard when a black man choses to date outside of their race, but should we hold Serena to the same standards. Should Serena have waited it out for a black man? Did she settle with a white man when black is really what she wanted? Do brothers have a right to be mad because of the choice Serena made? If one of the great black male athletes like Lebron James were dating a white million woman, we would refer to him as being “in a sunken place” Lol.
Through my own personal dating journey, I have heard so many times, “Girl you better go and get you a white man”. I personally do not date outside my race and yes, I am waiting for a black man to come along and sweep me off my feet, so if I were to date a white man it would be out of desperation because that is not what I want. Why do we encourage black women to go outside of their race to find a mate? Are we saying that black men do not make suitable mates? (FYI most of the women who have said this to me are married to black men)
Now we could argue Serena dating a white man is more acceptable because the pool of eligible black men is slim due to jail and the crack epidemic that forever changed black families. (See my previous story I am a Black Woman....I May Never Get Married).
As many of my readers know I am a very big “Black Love” advocate and I love to see us together loving each other. It is just something very special about seeing a black man so in love with a black queen, like the Obamas. I am not knocking the love that Serena and her boo have. I am sure he loves her just as much as any man black or white loves his woman.
